The Fiber Flatbed is one of our largest laser cutters, as such there will be times when the laser gets out of alignment.

Adjusting the Laserhead & Nozzle:

To align the laser head through the nozzle, follow these steps:

  1. Power on the laser machine and launch the Cypcut software.
  2. Adjust the focus position to 0 in Cypcut and use the yellow arrow to travel to that focus.

  3. Affix clear scotch tape or clear packing tape to the bottom of the nozzle on the laser head, ensuring that it fully covers the nozzle hole.
  4. Apply pressure to imprint the nozzle opening shape onto the tape, then turn on the shutter.
  5. To pulse fire the laser, click the "Laser" button in Cypcut. Ensure that protective eye wear is worn, and that there is no flammable material beneath the nozzle.
  6. Remove the tape, maintaining the same orientation as when it was stuck to the nozzle.
  7. Use the centering screws on the laser head to adjust the burn hole alignment to the center of the nozzle. Be cautious not to over-adjust the centering screws, as the laser head may vary in appearance. Make minor adjustments, reapply the tape, and test-fire again if necessary.

Aligning the Laserhead with Materials:

To align the laser head with the material, follow these steps:

  1. After aligning the laser head through the nozzle, move the laser head up and place a piece of 16 gauge regular carbon sheet steel underneath it.
  2. Turn on the shutter and hold down the laser pulse button in Cypcut until the steel turns red without melting away.
  3. Press "Follow" on the yellow handheld controller and guide the head down to the material while holding the controller's step button.
  4. Jog the laser head up one step and press the laser pulse button once.
  5. Move the laser head away from the material.
  6. If the quick pulse dot is not in the center of the larger burn mark, adjust the laser head mounting until the dot is centered. There are 4 socket cap screws that mount the laser head to the gantry, which may need to be loosened and adjusted to center the dot.
  7. Repeat the process as needed until the laser head is properly centered.
