FSL galvo systems carry one of the most complete vision stacks in the industry โ€” three different camera technologies, each solving a different alignment problem. Here's a quick tour of what's running under the hood in RE5.

Blue Line 3D Scanner

A structured-light blue laser line projected across the workpiece while the camera watches the deformation. RE5 turns the captured profile into a true 3D surface โ€” used for autofocus across uneven parts, depth-map generation for 3D relief engraving, and verifying that a curved or stepped surface is positioned correctly before the job runs. Blue light is preferred over red or IR for galvo work because it gives you cleaner edge contrast on metal and dark plastics where IR scanners struggle.

Coaxial Through-the-Lens Camera with Varioptic Liquid Lens

An optional coaxial camera fires through the same F-Theta lens the laser uses. Because it's literally seeing what the laser sees, you get camera-to-laser accuracy under 10 ยตm with no fiducial alignment step required. The Varioptic liquid lens auto-focuses across the working depth electronically โ€” no moving optics โ€” and the result is stitched into a single high-resolution image of the field. Best tool we have for fine-detail UV work, stainless steel marking, and any job where a few microns matter.

Stitched Telecentric Lens Camera

Telecentric optics keep the field perspective-free across the entire workspace โ€” straight lines stay straight, no foreshortening. RE5 captures a grid of telecentric frames and stitches them into one coherent overview image with measurement-grade accuracy. Pair it with our Whole Lens Correction calibration and you'll see better than 0.2 mm accuracy across an entire galvo bed.

All three feed into the same RE5 alignment, design-on-material, and fiducial workflows โ€” so whichever camera you have, the software treats it as a first-class part of the job.
